.. HAD THE GUTS…. my arms would be decorated some way like this:
Ok.. guts is the wrong word. Being almost 30 now I will ignore my mother’s well meant advice and just go for it. If I had decided for an artist yet I would be ready to go but I guess that will have to wait until winter. Getting tattooed in summer is a bad idea anyway. You can’t shower properly and the plastic foil is nasty, too. Owning 5 tattoos already this will be the first bigger project starting in the 30. year of my life. I consider myself old enough to decide that this is something I really want to do.
I don’t know why I’m so into inked skin but it really fascinates me. It’s an extreme way of showing personality, a way of being different, I have to admit that I love the sound of the needle, yes it can be addicting. I neither have the urge to show off my personality nor I’m not so much different from any other ordinary girl I just really like this art and if it’s properly done it’s just as pretty as an evening robe.
And what an eye candy it can be….
I really would love to get tattooed by Kat von D (1st and 2nd picture). She is so damn talented and makes the most brilliant tattoos I’ve ever seen. A guy at my work was inked by her and I’ve never seen such stunning work. I’d even travel all the way to LA for that and save all my money to get it done… *sigh*
Yep – I’m totally aware of what society might say. What actually scares the shit outta me is my mom. If I had the guts I already would have gotten more done already but…I’m a good girl, I’ve been to a christian girl’s school for many years, I respect my parents, I understand their doubts, I know my skin will look different when I’m 80 but with all that on my mind this is still the way how I want to express myself because that’s me. No worries, though I really like all those heavily tattooed girls here this is not what I’m aiming for. Just one arm. 3/4 of an arm. And I’m tiny so that’ll not be much :-)
What would you do if you had the guts?! Anything you’re planning on doing but someone or something is holding you back? I’d love to hear your story!
As mentioned on Friday already I’m starting a new series today called “IF I….” and it’ll be about things that I would do if I could, dreaming about things, imagining great events or situations… just for the sake of thinking a bit out of the box.
Let’s face it! We all have thoughts of things that will never come true but we think of them anyway. Or we have dreams and have troubles putting them into words, maybe make a moodboard and have the perfect picture in your head?! YES. The post is about dreaming and tackling the dream, having the perfect vision, visualizing, peppered with eye candy… And that’s what I will do every Monday now and I invite you to join.
Stay tuned for the first post tonight. :-)
Happy Friday to everyone. I hope you all had a nice week and accomplished everything on your to-do list. I didn’t get anything accomplished this week. I couldn’t even bother to have a peek on my list. I guess I think too much and I have the feeling all this thinking keeps me from actually getting shit done! Instead of doing what I want to get done I find a gazillion reasons why I can’t and it’s not that I do something else instead – no! NOTHING happens.
Though there ARE things that I actually did. They were not planned but anyway: I booked a trip to Sardinia. That alone should have put me in the best mood that should last until the trip actually starts. And I was really doing good in drinking more water. Still I’m not reaching my goal of 10 cups a day but I drink 7 or 8 glasses and that is totally fine. I didn’t notice any changes yet but I guess that’ll come sooner or later. Then I thought of a fun new weekly series that will be posted every Monday that I’m really looking forward to.
And last but not least I signed up for PIN IT FORWARD hosted by sweet Victoria of sfgirlbybay. She introduced me to PINTEREST which is a fantastic tool to create visual boards by bookmarking images you find online. I’ve been pinning down many things this week and it’s such a blast. I just love it. The theme of Victoria’s blogger mashup is “What home means to me!” My turn is June 10th and by doing my visual boards my idea of what it really means to me gets clearer every day.
Next week I will try to focus again on the things I really want to get done. Work on my shop products, start photographing them, start writing descriptions, try something out. Even if it’s just a little bit I really should kick me in the butt and move. I’ll have 5 free days that I shouldn’t waste.
Now let’s have a well-deserved weekend and if you have any motivational kick-ass tips for me please let me know! :-)
Being a huge fan of Amy Butler I was not really surprised when I received the newsletter this morning with the information she’s now selling organic bedding . I mean… fabrics, bags, towels, paper, tableware, rugs. She’s got it all and she’s fabulous! Her first set of bedding was already wonderful though not organic. She is really keeping up with the latest fashion and meets the demand of people who want to help saving the environment.
Some years ago when I started being interested in sewing Amy was the first fabric designer I got to know, the first who made me realize that there are actually people designing patterns for fabric. It may sound weird but back in the days I had no idea and from day one I loved her patterns. The designs were totally my style, useful for every kind of project but what really amazed me were the colors. So vibrant and bright. The quality of her fabrics is superb and it’s always a joy working with the materials.
Her organic bedding includes 3 collections. A blue – Dream Daisy & Dream Poppy, a green – Dancing Garden & Dancing Paisley, and a pink – Sari Blooms & Full Bloom Paisley. My favorites are the blue and the green one and they are so flashing I can’t stop looking!
The details amaze me. You can see how much work was put in the development and how carefully the pattern were chosen. Just brilliant.
The pink/red version is lovely, too just I wouldn’t want such a red overflow in my home :-)
I really have to find a way to get hold of a duvet cover or at least some pillow covers. It’s just too beautiful and I imagine it would look pretty in our all white bedroom. Let’s see. The range is available by June at Bed Bath & Beyond.
And by the way… did you know Amy offers LOTS of free patterns? Quilts, yoga bags… but paper gift tags or flowers as well. Just adorable.
I wish I will meet her in person one day. She’s really one talented woman that inspires me a lot and who makes me want to sew better so I can make more great projects from her fabric. She’s my rockstar!
This will be my ode to the island my mother is from. So partially I’m from there, too :-). Just today we booked our summer trip to Sardinia that is too beautiful to describe. But I’ll do my best.
The picture you see above was not taken on some caribbean island or somewhere in the south seas. This was one of the first beaches I’ve ever seen in my life and I stood there, my jaw dropped and I couldn’t believe that this was just 24 (driving) hours away from Frankfurt. This small place (though it’s the biggest island in the mediterranean sea) has the most beautiful beaches in Europe. After being to the caribbeans as well I can promise you the only thing that’s different is that you will rarely find palms by the beach but pine trees. The water is crystal clear and the beaches are so white you need sunglasses. That’s why the northern coast is called “Costa Smeralda” – the Emerald Coast. That’s the place where hollywood celebrities have their huge luxury homes.

I don’t want to write about things that you can read over at Wikipedia as well. Since I’ve been there so often I’d rather tell you about the things that you will not read anywhere.
Should you decide to travel to Sardinia be prepared that this island has more sheeps than people and you will meet them everywhere you go. When you rent a car and you’re on a curvy street – which will happen very often – be careful, a herd can be just around the corner. I cannot count how often that happened to us and how shocked I was everytime that happened. And how annoyed I was because it can take quite a while to get out of the middle of a sheep herd. Because of all these animals you’ll find the BEST CHEESE ever. Sardinian Pecorino is terrific and tastes so good. And together with the traditional bread (you can compare that with a very flat pita) and a glass of wine… aaahhhhh. Delicious.
The little village where my mom comes from – Benetutti – is literally in the middle of nowhere. 1000 inhabitants and everyone knows the other. We’ve been there a lot when I was a kid and STILL I don’t understand a word in that language (except of casu = cheese). Though it’s a part of Italy (don’t say that to a sardinian!! they’ll be highly offended.) they have their own language which is a mixture of spanish, french, arabic, latin and a bit of italian. Since my dad is from the south of Italy my parents spoke common italian to us kids and with each other so we didn’t learn it. It sounds so weird and funny and even if you’re fluent in italian you’re LOST.
Benetutti, Sardinia
One thing that made me go nuts as a kid was sardinian pastoral songs. Holy Sheep! My granddad was a huge fan of this. Listen here… you’ll get it. My thought was “they must be hurt…!” (ah… and that is their language)
But on the other hand what I always liked and still think is fabulous is the sardinian folk dance. EVERYONE knows it, everybody dances it and even I can do some moves. Or better… everytime we’re on a family wedding or some kind of other party my mom and her 4 sisters insist on a “Ballo Sardo”. It’s looks a bit like feet of flames just not that quick. And as a kid you can’t just stand around and watch. You have to join in. And since you’re in line anyway you just move. The motto is MOVE YOUR FEET (“and shut up! there is nothing to be afraid of!” <- that said my mom). I’m just so glad they didn’t put me in such a costume yet. I remember my mom always saying it’s one of her biggest wishes to see me once in the traditional costume. *sigh* Yes.. maybe one day I’ll do it. But NO pictures!!
Yes Sardinia is such a special place for me. I LOVE the beaches, the food, the oddities. When you’ve been to Italy you think you know what to expect. And none of that happens. It’s hard to describe. Life is slower and more cheerful. There is one Wikipedia fact that I’d like to share to make that clear: “Sardinia shares with the Japanese island of Okinawa the highest rate of centenarians in the world (22 centenarians/100,000 inhabitants).” I believe you don’t become that old in a world that is hectic and chaotic, where the food is bad and the weather sucks (they have 300 sunny days per year!!)
If you’re in Europe and don’t want to travel far to visit one stunning country I can highly recommend this place. You would not regret. I hope I could give you a small impression of my culture and leave you with some eye candy of the country. Enjoy!
