Burda is just my Style
I remember my mom sewed a lot when I was a kid. Mostly our costumes for carnival. And she always bought the patterns from Burda and so until some days ago I considered Burda to be kind of old-fashioned and not really hip. But just the other day… I don’t know what bit me… I bought my very first Burda Style magazine and now I have this virus. I HAVE TO SEW SOMETHING FOR ME TO WEAR. Believe me. I cannot think of anything else since 3 days. I want these two outfits. No matter what! (I only have to understand the instructions and find out how much fabric I need. It’s a bit tricky…)

And I have almost chosen the fabrics. I think I want something floral for the dress. And something geometrical for the shirt and skirt. What do you think?

Yes… grey might not be a nice summer color but I’m not a skirt girl. So I’d better start with something that is not so bold, right?! AND additionally I have a crush on herringbone now. Isn’t this the most fabulous pattern (and chevron)? Oh how I love thee!
I’ve chose many more fabrics that you can check out on my Pinterest fabric board. Have fun!
Next week will be all about Love and Valentine! Gorgeous digital freebies, tutorials AND even a giveaway :-) Stay tuned for a week full of joy. Have a great weekend!

Making a birdie sling
I must admit I didn’t even buy the pattern yet but I wanted to make this birdie sling bag since ages. It’s one of Amy Butler’s famous patterns and I think it’s very easy to make and I plan to make one this spring.
Therefore I was looking for some fabrics today and found some great ones…

Blue and violet paisley together with some polka dots.
Green stripes and simple green fabric look good together.
Heather Ross sleeping beauty and pale pink.

And here is a pattern from a designer that I’ve recently discovered. Heidi Chisholm from South Africa designs these beautiful quirky African fabrics for Shine Shine and I fell in love with this lady on the Vespa! Gorgeous!!

Have a happy weekend my loves!

Fabric Friday: Here comes the rain again…
Thank god it’s Friday. Don’t you think? Here in Frankfurt after it snowed for 2 weeks in a row it’s raining and turns the snowy streets into perfect places for ice skating. That is no weather for me to go outside but rather stay home and sew.
I didn’t introduce Fabric Friday to you, right?! Of course not as today is the first Friday of the year where I will present fabrics for your inspiration that will probably make you want to start sewing. Or at least I hope so. Because this is how it started with me. I was given that machine, I had a cast on my foot and couldn’t do anything but sit around and I had a stash of scraps that they gave me with the machine. I started sewing with the scraps I had. And then I wanted nicer fabric and searched around and found Amy Butler and my heart missed a beat when I saw her fabrics that I ordered most of the Lotus series. This is how my passion for sewing began. Sewing is so much nicer when you have precious fabric to work with and there is SO MUCH out there and I’m buying fabric as much as Carry Bradshaw buys shoes. Maybe I can make the same thing happen to you.
Today I realized that I have a bunch of fabrics in my Spoonflower favorites that are related to rain or have rainy clouds or umbrellas. And since it’s such a rainy day here I’d thought that’s the perfect opportunity to share them.
Here we have the rainy day collection which I just find adorable.
Krople – Rain Girl – On a cloudy day -Â Rainy day clouds – Bumbershoots – Red umbrella
Do you know Spoonflower?! It’s a place where you can upload your own design and they will print it on fabric and send it to you. Fabric on demand. Heaven. There is no minimum order, prices go from $ 18 – $ 32 per yard and I love to browse there and see what others have created. Again here we’re supporting small designers who can’t afford to produce a gazillion yards of fabric to sell it all over the world. Some have to start small (I wonder how Amy Butler started…I will ask her) and I want to support those talents.
I imagine them to be highlight kid’s clothes or better – the lining of a selfmade rain-coat.What would you use them for?

That was the last post for this week and the last of the new blog routine in 2011 here on Happy Serendipity.
Let’s recap
Fabric Friday
PLUS the posts that come inbetween because I want to share something in particular. And I’m planning some guest posts here as well. I’m so looking forward to this year of blogging and connecting and learning and getting to know each other. Since I’m as well working on new things for the shop and plan on attending a craft fair at the end of the year it might happen that I have to take some days off blogging as well sometime this year but that won’t happen anytime soon.
I hope you enjoyed this first week with me and now I wish you all a fantastic weekend.
