On a mission: drink.more.water!!

It’s 6:15 am and I’m actually up since an hour ago. It’s Tuesday and I have a week off. So why am I up this early?! Because I don’t drink enough. That’s why! Again I feel this pain in my lower belly so it’s obvious to me that I’m having a bladder infection again that reminds me that I should drink more.

I’ve never been a big drinker and if I do I’m VERY slow. A big cup of tea can last the whole morning. It’s just that there is no thirst. I remember once as a young girl I realized I’m like a camel. I could be without a drop of liquid for 2 days and feel totally fine. It’s been like this my whole life. But I reached the point where I have the 6th infection in maybe 2 years and it does really hurt again so I made the decision I have to tackle this issue RIGHT NOW!!

I heard it takes 21 days for the body to get used to something or to change a habit. Perfect. So I will grit my teeth and will not complain about spending more time in the bathroom. All this is better than this pain and I mean – what are 21 days?

Since I rarely feel thirsty I made a plan on how to drink more. In January I managed it for a period of 2 weeks. I was at home (with a bad flu….) and I drank tons of tea BUT I thought of nothing else than “I have to drink!!” It was a new year’s resolution to do this so it was easy somehow. But how can I live and work with just that thought in my head? No, I need a plan to get used to this very normal way of behaving. These are 4 things I thought of:

Goal: drink 2 liters a day (67 fl.oz) every day!

1. Buy small bottles of water instead of one big one. Just seeing this bottle freaks me out. I could put the two small bottles on my desk and visualize them being empty by the end of the day

2. I’m pretty sure just visualizing won’t get me anywhere. So I will set my alarm starting at 9:30 am to ring every hour where I will drink one glass of liquid. This makes 11 glasses until 8 pm, makes 2.2 liters. YAY.

3. Place a bottle in my car. Drinking while driving is a good time filler.

4. Prepare 2 servings of smoothie in the morning. I can easily drink juices (and the vitamins are good too!)

Rules: At least half of the amount has to be water and sodas and coffee DON’T count (I’m so glad I’m not into sodas and 2 coffee a day won’t hurt)

Wooh! What a task. I already see myself running to the bathroom every 8 minutes. But I will smile and constantly tell myself that this will pass, too!

While researching for this post I’ve found “this water” with these fabulous nice labels. You know, I love nice packaging and would buy this just because of this sweet bird or the little cloud. And hey – it’s water, right? :-) Actually this brand uses Scottish spring water and adds pure fruit juices to it. Sounds delicious but unfortunately it’s not available in Germany, yet. But anyway. I will find my way and will do anything to get rid of this pain.

Just in case you have valuable advice for my mission I’d be glad to hear  it.

P.S.: While writing this post I drank one cup of tea. :-)
