The first handmade project of this year is the loop scarf that I’ve given to my little niece for Christmas. It’s so easy and quick to make and can be designed in a gazillion different ways – you’ll love it.

I chose a cozy organic flannel fabric made by Cloud9. The Forest Friends series is very soft and warm – so perfect for a winter scarf.

I cut 2 stripes of matching fabric in the dimension 20 x 100 cm (7.9″ x 39.1″). Seems long but it’s supposed to go around the head twice so it’s just right.

Then you have to put the fabric rights side facing on one another, fix with some pins and sew along the 2 long sides of the stripes leaving the sides open.

Turn inside out and it’ll look like this.

Now it becomes a bit tricky and it took me a while to figure it out since I didn’t have a decent tutorial. At least none with pictures. Bring together the rights sides of one opening, fix and sew as in picture 1 and 2. After that it should look like picture 3 and 4.

After that turn inside out again.

Bring together the other opening and sew together, leaving a bit open to turn inside out AGAIN (I always have to make a mark as I’m dumb enough to sew this close…)

Now you’re almost done.

Close the opening with some hand stitches and you’re finished.

Tadaaa

And it goes around my little neck as well. :-)

Very nice! The scarf is reversible, you can arrange it that both sides are showing when you wear it, you can use even more different fabrics than two to have a more patchworked look. The possibilities are various.

This project takes 15 minutes to make and suitable for absolute sewing beginners.

One more thing worth mentioning: I purchased the flannel at Modern Organic Fabric shop where the service was excellent and Melanie provided me with all kinds of valuable information I needed about the fabric. Unfortunately she is closing her shop which is heart breaking as I considered her to be my source when it comes to organic fabric but well, I can imagine how tough it is to survive in this business.
